Warning: The Future of Front of Pack

From our Executive Creative Director: Dan Gladden.

I had the pleasure of joining a panel at Expo West to discuss the FDA’s proposed Front-of-Pack nutritional labeling legislation.

With over 20 years of experience leading creative for global and local brands, I’ve seen firsthand how front-of-pack claims and nutritional information pose challenges in packaging design. How many claims should be included? What differentiates your brand? What matters most to consumers? And how do we leverage side and back panels to seal the deal? Are all questions we challenge our clients on.

Nutritional labeling has long been mandatory or voluntary worldwide, and by 2026, the U.S. will implement its own mandatory system. Globally, two dominant approaches exist: Europe and the UK use a traffic light system (Go, Caution, Stop), while LATAM countries, like Mexico, adopt hazard-style warnings.

As a creative agency and members of the Good Food Collective , we’re asking: Is this the best way to communicate essential nutrition information? We think there’s a better way—one that’s intuitive, engaging, and empowers consumers without compromising brand identity.

We’re actively working on a proposal to the FDA to shape a system that benefits both brands and consumers. Stay tuned.

If your brand is rethinking its front-of-pack strategy, let’s talk. We’re here to help you stay ahead—without losing what makes your brand unique. Interact Brands
